A Report from the Battlefield

I’m sure you have been waiting on the edge of your seat to find out the outcome of the Battle to Destroy Gacky Sage.   On the one hand, I hope your life is so full and rich that you haven’t wasted a single moment wondering about whether or not we actually painted.  On the other hand, how could you not?  It is, after all, Gacky Sage, one of the most nefarious villains known to the world of home decor.

If you don’t believe me, then you haven’t spent the last six years of your life living under the terror of it’s reign.

Of course you want to know if we have prevailed.

But first, let’s review.  When we bought our current home, it came with a bevy of tasteless unusual color choices.  None of them were what I would call neutral.  We covered the worst of them within the first year of moving in, but Gacky Sage had overtaken most of the first floor, the stairwell, upstairs hallway, and an upstairs bedroom.  Covering it up proved to be a lot of work–work that we really didn’t get around to until we’d lived in the home more than five years.  At long last, we have succeeded in taking over the last few walls with our current favorite paint color, Behr’s Antique White.

And I now present you with photographic proof of the battle we have waged. Goodbye, Gacky Sage.

Hello, lots and lots and lots of primer, first.   A huge jumble of furnishings.

Yards and yards of tape.  And several coats of Antique White.  That Gacky Sage was hard to kill, I tell you.

Thank you, Bionic Man, for helping to fulfill my dream of a world without Gacky Sage.  You deserve a medal of honor.

Just take a look at that fireplace.  Even with painter’s tape and bad lighting, can you tell how much better that fireplace looks against walls of Antique White?  It had be oppressed for so many years…now it is freed.

We had to give the walls a few days to cure before we tackled the trim, because we’re perfectionists like that when it comes to painting.  I was away for a few days, so this is pretty much the way things still look at our house.  If I can finish the trim today, I’ll have some more progress pics to show you tomorrow!
