What’s Behind YOUR Stove?

Most of us would prefer not to answer that question in polite company.  It’s not exactly the part of the home that gets the most frequent attention with broom and dustmop.  But today, I’m going to break the mold.

I’m showing you what’s behind my stove.

There’s a wall.

And on that wall, we now have…

…a tile backsplash!

The Bionic Man and I began this project over MLK weekend.  We had all the tile up and ready for grout before I went out of town for a few days.  Now, we’re getting ready to start on the other side of the kitchen, where our sink is.

While the actual tile installation began last week, this is a project we’ve had on our to-do list for quite a while.  In fact, we’d actually started looking at the tile last spring.  (You can read about our choices HERE.)

Last year when we first started shopping, we had decided against subway tile.   As you can see, though, we changed our minds.  We loved the glass mosaics, but found them a little too busy as a full backsplash.  Subway tiles on their own were a little blah, but we decided we loved the combination of the two.  It’s hard to tell in these pictures, but the different tones of color in the mosaic tiles are very complimentary to our countertops and the oak cabinets.  I’m excited about how this is going to turn out!

In the mean time, this is what my kitchen looks like.  Pray for me.
