Those two elements of my life had absolutely nothing in common…until I decided to start pinning for a cause. With the help of two other heart moms, I recently founded a Pinterest board devoted to sharing the stories of families affected by the #1 Birth Defect. The board is titled, “The Faces of CHD – Congenital Heart Awareness Week Feb 7-12, 2012.”
I’m being joined in this effort by two other heart moms/bloggers, Stefenie of When Life Hands You a Broken Heart… and Becca of The Stanley Clan. They are incredible women with amazing stories, and you really should stop by their blogs and get to know them.
You can learn more about The Faces of CHD, Pinterest, and how other families are participating by visiting our FAQ page.
If you would like your child (or yourself, if you are an adult survivor) to be part of the Awareness Challenge, please click HERE for more information.
If you are not familiar with Pinterest, here’s a quick rundown of how the board works:
When a Pinterest member clicks on an individual pin, it takes him/her to a larger version of the pin. If the pin is linked to a public, online source (like a blog or care update site), then clicking on the large version of the pin will take the Pinterest member directly to that online source.
Pinterest members have the option to “like”, comment, or repin the pins that they encounter. Repinning means that a Pinterest member has made the pin available to all of the people that follow his/hear boards to see and repin again. Many people have been commenting on our heart children’s pins, which is a great way for all of us to connect.
At the time this “About” page was published, we had 85 faces on the board, and over 700 Pinterest members following the board. Thank you to all of those who have shared their stories, and to all the Pinterest members out there who have become involved in helping to increase awareness of Congenital Heart Defects!
